Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or location entered in a search tool is sent directly to the outside provider that operates it. That company processes the query and supplies its own results. We do not keep or log those search terms on our systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email sent to us may be retained so our team can respond and maintain the exchange. We do not disclose such messages outside the organization unless the law requires disclosure.
Data We Gather Automatically
Our servers may receive routine technical information whenever a visitor opens a page:
- Page-view times and the pages visited
- Device type and operating system
- The referring website, when available
- Browser type and version
- Time spent on a page
- The device's assigned IP address
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files stored on a visitor's device. We and our analytics providers may use them to understand traffic patterns, such as popular pages and common exit points. Browser controls can block cookies, though disabling them may change how parts of the site work.

No Criminal-Record Data on File
Transylvania County Criminal History does not build, keep, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It publishes general directions to the Sheriff's Office, the Clerk of Superior Court, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, and the North Carolina Sex Offender and Public Protection Registry. The site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Visitor data is not assembled into consumer reports or criminal-record files about other people.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies power the search boxes. Their privacy terms, retention periods, and disclosure practices govern any information entered there. We do not control those practices. Review the provider's policy before sending a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to Transylvania County offices, North Carolina courts, state agencies, legal resources, or outside search services. Once a visitor follows a link, the destination's privacy policy applies. Read that policy before sharing personal information.
Some advertising providers may use their own systems to follow activity across websites for targeted advertising. We do not run that cross-site tracking.
Who Might See Your Data
We do not sell personal data. Limited information may be available to:
- Analytics providers that measure site traffic and performance
- Outside search providers that receive a visitor's query
- Advertising networks that serve ads on these pages
- A government or law-enforcement body acting under a valid legal order
How We Protect Your Data
We use standard safeguards for data under our control. No internet service is completely secure, however, so we cannot guarantee that a breach or unauthorized access will never occur.
Users Under 18
This site is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under age 18. If we learn that a minor provided such information, we will take steps to delete it.
Your Data Rights
Rights over personal data depend on the law that applies to the visitor and the request. North Carolina's Public Records Law, Chapter 132, governs qualifying records held by public agencies; it does not turn this private site into a government custodian or create a general private-site privacy right. Subject to applicable law, a visitor may:
- Ask whether we retain personal data about that visitor
- Request correction of inaccurate retained information
- Ask that retained personal data be deleted when the law permits
- Opt out of certain processing where applicable law provides that choice
Updates to This Policy
This policy may be revised. A changed version becomes available on this page, together with a new effective date, so visitors can review the practices then in force.
